Message From The Pastor's Desk
Worship God Faithfully with your Tithes and Offerings.
Giving is a type of worship which an individual can use as a personal snapshot to measure his or her commitment to God. There are people that would criticize me if I stood in front of the offering basket and watched to see what each person was giving to the Lord. Do you know that Jesus was doing just that? He noticed that the poor Widow gave two mites and by revelation knowledge knew that she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had. That led Christ to say that the poor Widow has put in more than all the people. Why? This is because God not only takes note of what you have given for his work, he also takes into consideration what you have left in your wallet or purse.
Let us examine the poor Widow closely and see whether we can find ourselves in her. Think about the money you put into a collection basket on Sundays. What does it amount to? To some it amounts to a good lunch in McDonald's. To some, a good meal in a nice restaurant. For others it amounts to a very expensive thing. Everyone's gift means something different to them, and is as different as each giver. The most important thing that God regards is the sacrifice that you make. If you had $10 million dollars and you give $100 every Sunday it could at best be regarded as a good start. However of course,we should never compare our giving to what someone else has given, so that we do not suffer the fate of Ananias and Sapphira.
The two coins that the Widow in today's scripture passage gave were significantly small compared to the larger gifts given by the successful Merchants and wealthy Farmers jostling past her. But Jesus could see how much the coins were worth to the woman, and her gift touched his heart. The purpose of giving is to encourage Kingdom building. The ministry needs money to expand. If God wants to bring in big Contributors for big programs, he will do it.
But let the journey begin with those that he has now and others will follow and give after!
